Here’s an overview of my knitting technical editing services
• Formatting patterns following a style sheet, pattern template, or guidelines provided
• Checking that spelling, punctuation, and grammar are correct and consistent
• Verifying and editing instructions and also checking for consistency. This may involve rewording/reorganizing to improve understanding or to facilitate working the pattern
• Verifying all math, such as ensuring that: sizing/grading is correct and follows CYCA standards and guidelines; stitch counts for all sizes are correct; pattern multiples are correctly set up; measurements for all sizes match stitch and row gauge; if metric measurements are used, they are accurate
• Confirming that charts and schematics match pattern instructions
• Communicating with designer regularly about progress and also about possible errors or areas needing clarification

Feedback from recent clients
“Michael Harrigan worked with me on my latest book of knitting patterns to bring accuracy and consistency to the collection. His approach and thoroughness made the entire process pleasant and one of the easiest elements of the project. I highly recommend Michael for technical editing and pattern grading.“

“I have been using Michael Harrigan’s editing services for over eight years and he has edited over 30 books. Michael provides a very prompt service and does an excellent editing job. In addition to marking spelling and punctuation errors, he also notes inconsistencies in font, positioning, spacing, etc. My books are used by English speakers around the world. I am an Australian, using Australian spelling, grammar and vocabulary. Michael has been invaluable in highlighting the changes that need to be made to the text to make it suitable for an American audience. I am delighted to recommend Michael’s editing services.”
